Alltop Search : Prototype using Greasemonkey

I love Alltop.  Guy Kawasaki’s new venture that aggregates the top sites for a given topic.  I’ve found it easier than using google reader to review my favorite RSS feeds.  It’s also served as a great starting point for research.  Two minor issues I have with it include:

  1. No way to track what you’ve read.  So you end up re-scanning old headlines.
  2. Too many sources.  Some topics simply have too many sources to review.

My biggest issue is that it lacks a search feature for each topic.  I would simply like to search for a term within the sites highlighted in the topic.

Out of frustration and curiousity, I wrote a greasemonkey script that adds search box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.  You can enter any term and it will compile a search query for google that includes the sources on the alltop page.  Google truncates queries and kicks back errors for large query strings, so I’ve limited the search to the first 15 sources.

It’s not perfect, it kinda works… but a good working prototype.  Give it try and let me know what you think.
